Hi Susanne,

ich schreibe mal ab, was der DD Companion dazu mitteilt:

"This verse and the subsequent verses quoted throughout the rest of the chapter come from the twelfth-century epic, "Le Roman d´Enéas"and relate to the burial of Camilla the Volscian. Only those verses quoted within the text have been
translated; all tense changes are in the original quoted version:

At that Camille calls the people (together)
He summoned the damsels,
he revealed their lady to them,
she was all covered in blood...
they washed her in rose water,
and cut her fine locks,
and then they perfumed her:
there is balm and there was plenty of myrrh,
they adorned her body well within it...

In a silken sheet from Almeria
was the maiden buried,
and then they placed her in a bier
which was rich and expensive.
...the bed was covered with cotton
and above it was placed a tapestry
which covered all the bedding...

They dress Camilla in a shift,
made of fine tunic of Baghdad silk;
she had a crown on her head of fine gold,
and held the sceptre in her right hand,
and had her left hand on her breast.
In the middle of the vault was set
the tomb where Camilla was placed...

A golden inscription was on the tomb,
letters of black were on it,
her epitaph was written there.
The letters read, the verse says:
"Here lies Camilla the damsel,
who was most brave and most beautiful
and who greatly loved chivalry
and upheld it all her life..."

(André Mary, ed., La Fleur de la Poésie Francaise, Paris, 1951.)"

Jetzt habe ich auch wieder was gelernt!

Viel Spaß beim Weiterlesen wünscht
Silke
